Sergio Blanco is a French-Uruguayan playwright and director, born in Montevideo and currently based in Paris. His work, grounded in autofiction and the blurring of the boundary between author, actor, and character, has been performed in many countries and translated into more than fifteen languages.
He has received several major international awards, including two Off West End Awards in London — for Tebas Land and The Rage of Narcissus. He is also a recipient of the Alas Award and the Silver Medal of the Morosoli Prize, both awarded in Uruguay for his overall career.
His most acclaimed texts include Kassandra, When You Pass Over My Tomb, The Bellow of Düsseldorf, and Traffic, and have been presented in leading theatrical institutions around the world.
In recent years, he has premiered COVID451 (2020), Divina invención (Madrid, 2021), Zoo (at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano, 2022), Tierra (Montevideo, 2023), Confesiones (Montevideo, 2024), as well as an opera based on Kassandra, presented at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires in co-production with the Greek National Opera.
Today, he is considered one of the most widely staged contemporary Spanish-language playwrights in the world.
